Practice shows that up to 50% of breakdowns in rotating machines are directly related to inaccurate alignment. Misalignment increases loads in the coupling, which are transmitted to the shafts and bearings.
Misalignment of couplings is a condition where the axes of the driving and driven machine are not on the same center line, under operational conditions. The condition can reach parallel misalignment and angular misalignment.

Coupling misalignment may occur by:
- Mounting problem.
-Operational Issues. Machines with aligned shafts initially lose their alignment during operation due to failures in the settlement of their foundations, stresses caused by deformation of pipes, expansion temperature in the machine, uneven deformation under load, etc.
The effects of misalignment are:
- High levels of vibration.
